What are Bundles and how do they work?

Bundles are packages of products sold together that creators can offer to generate more value for their customers and encourage them to buy more products at once. Selling bundles is a very effective strategy to increase sales and the average ticket of your business!

In this article, we will explain what bundles are, which models are available, which payment methods can be used, and how to add or remove products from the bundles you have created.

There are two types of bundles: Fixed Bundle and Flexible Bundle. Below, we explain the difference between them:

• Fixed Bundle: In this model, the buyer will have access only to the products added to the bundle at the time of purchase, whether it is a one-time payment or a subscription. If new products are added to the bundle after the purchase, previous buyers will not have access to these new items. However, if products are removed from the bundle, buyers who purchased the bundle will lose access to these items.
• Flexible Bundle: This model is available only for subscription payment bundles and allows the buyer to have access to new products added to the bundle after the initial purchase. For example, if you create a bundle with three products, make sales, and then add one more product, both old and new students will have access to all four products. There will be no additional charges for existing students, even if the subscription price is changed for new sales. Additionally, in this model, it is not possible to remove a product from the bundle once created.

Now that you understand the difference between the bundle models, it is important to note that it is not possible to change a Fixed Bundle to a Flexible one and vice versa.

What payment methods can be set up for a bundle?

There are two payment methods for purchasing bundles: one-time payment (which can be paid in installments, depending on the country where the purchase is made) and subscription (recurring charges). 

It is important to choose the payment method for the bundle carefully, as it will override the individual payment method of the products. This means that if you add a product created as a subscription to a one-time payment bundle, the bundle will have only the one-time charge. Similarly, if you add one-time payment products to a subscription bundle, the bundle charges will be recurring. 

The payment method of the bundle prevails, regardless of the payment methods of the products that comprise it.

How to create a bundle?

If you have at least two online courses and/or online events registered on the platform, you can create a bundle. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Access your Hotmart account through the link https://app.hotmart.com/login.
2. Click on Products in the left sidebar, and then select Members area.
3. Click on Bundles, then on Create bundle.
4. At this stage of the setup, define a name and description that grabs the attention of potential customers. Choose the language and market, define the image that will represent this bundle, and upload it by clicking on Select file. When finished, click Next.
5. Select which products will be part of the bundle and click Next again.
6. Choose the bundle format, Fixed or Flexible, and confirm the action once more by clicking Next.
7. On the Pricing screen, you will see the sum of your product prices, and it will be necessary to determine the discount percentage that your customer will get when buying the bundle. Also, determine the currency, guarantee, and payment method. After filling in the fields, click Save and continue.
8. In the final step, insert the link to your sales page by clicking on External page and filling in the URL field. Then, click Finish. If you do not have a sales page yet, you can create one for free by clicking Create pages. 
9. Done! After completing the steps, your bundle will be created and ready for sale.

How to add or remove products from a bundle?

As we mentioned, it is possible to add other products to the bundles you have already created, regardless of the bundle model. However, the option to remove products from an already created bundle is only available for Fixed Bundles.

To add products to a bundle or remove products (in the case of a Fixed Bundle), follow the instructions below:

1. Access your Hotmart account through the link https://app.hotmart.com/login.
2. Click on Products in the left sidebar, and then select Members area. 
3. Select the area of your preference, and then click on Bundles.
4. Choose the bundle and click on the 3-dot button. Then, click Edit.
5. Click on Bundle products located in the left menu.
6. Select Add product if you want to include a product in your bundle. But, if you want to remove a product from your Fixed Bundle, click Remove.

How is the Video Player fee charged for products in a bundle?

For bundles, the use of the Hotmart Streaming service also has an activation fee. In this case, the value may vary according to the types of products sold in the bundle:

• In the case of one-time payment products or subscriptions in the first recurrence: 2.98 EUR/USD or 4.99 BRL.
• Other recurrences of a subscription: 1.20 EUR/USD or 1.00 BRL.

Frequently asked questions

❯ What happens to the access of a students with overdue payments in a bundle with a subscription payment method?

As with any subscription, if the buyer stops making recurring payments, they will lose access to the entire bundle, that is, to all the products that are part of it.

❯ What happens to student access when requesting a refund?

By requesting a refund for a bundle, the student loses access to all the products that are part of it.
On the other hand, if your student made a separate purchase of one of the products that are part of a bundle, for example, and asked for a refund after realizing that they had made a purchase of a duplicate product, their access to the bundle will not be compromised. This is because the refund requested refers to the purchase of the single product, not the bundle.

❯ A student purchased one of my products separately and paid for it in installments, but then purchased a bundle with the same product in subscription format. Will they be charged for both the installment purchase and the subscription recurrences?

Yes, the student will be charged for both purchases. This is because the system does not override one purchase on another, and since these are different purchases (even though the bundle has the same product purchased individually), the charges will be made as usual.

❯ Can I add an eBook to my bundle?

Only products in the format of an online course or an online event can be added to a bundle. In order to be included, both formats must be hosted in the Hotmart members area.

❯ How do I make changes to the products that are part of my bundle?

Even if a product is part of a bundle, any edits, whether to content or access, must be made individually for each product added to the bundle. See the section of articles about our members area (Hotmart Club) and check out all the possibilities offered.

❯ How do I add a bundle offer in my members area?

You can enable the display of your bundle offer within your members area and allow students who have not yet purchased your bundle to see this offer and even purchase your bundle directly from the members area!
To enable or disable the bundle offer in your Hotmart Club, follow the steps below:

1. 1. Access your Hotmart account through the link https://app.hotmart.com/login.
   2. Click on Products in the left sidebar.
   3. Select Members area and click on Bundles.
   4. Choose the bundle and switch the key to the right to enable the display of the bundle offer in your members area or to the left to disable the display of the bundle offer.

❯ Can I use Order Bump or Sales Funnel in my bundles?

Yes, you can offer a bundle as a main or secondary product in the Order Bump and you can also add it to your Sales Funnel flow.
