How to ensure more protection for my eBooks in PDF and EPUB (Social DRM)?

Social DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a set of technologies applied to inhibit the reproduction and unwanted sharing of digital files. At Hotmart, you can protect your PDF and EPUB files, both for eBooks and for content available in the Members Area (Hotmart Club).

❯ Protection in EPUB files

For EPUB files, we insert a mark in the code of the eBook's internal files. These marks, which include the full name and email of the user downloading the file, are not visible during reading. They can only be viewed with a text editor when opening the eBook's internal files.

❯ Protection in PDF files

In PDF files, we apply a visible watermark on each page, which can be customized in size, font color, and position. Additionally, we offer copy protection (prevents the content from being copied to another location), print protection, and password protection (only added if the creator activates this option). 

It is important to highlight that we follow the settings defined in the ISO 32000-1 specification. However, we cannot guarantee that the copy and print protection will work in all PDF readers. We emphasize that, due to the variability in PDF readers and editors, the effectiveness of the protection may not be uniform.

❯ To configure the protection of your content, follow the instructions below:

1. Access your Hotmart account via the link https://app.hotmart.com/. 
2. In the left menu, select the option Tools > Show all.
3. On the new screen, select Protection for ebooks (Social DRM).
4. Choose the desired product and click Continue.
5. On the following page, click the Enable DRM Protection button and choose between EPUB or PDF.
   a. If you opt for PDF, adjust the font size, color, and position settings as desired.
6. Click Save to apply the settings.
